Course Description

Our Hazardous Materials and Harmful Cargos (HAZMAT) course is a specialized training programme that fulfills the training requirements as specified in the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code (IMDG code) and is for all personnel (sailing or shore-based), who are involved in the transportation of dangerous goods.

This course provides training directed at the Mariner, Port & Terminal Handlers, Freight Forwarders, Shippers, Manufacturer and the Consumer in understanding the terminology, classification, packaging, labeling of Dangerous cargoes. The course covers, the theory necessary for understanding the complete handling processes from start including documentation, Emergency Response in case of an incident and Medical First Aid.

Scope of the Course

The objective of the HAZMAT (IMDG Code) Course is to enhance the safe transport of dangerous goods while facilitating the free unrestricted movement of such goods. The course aims to impart understanding and application skills in IMDG Code.

This Course includes sections on the following topics:

  1. Construction and use of the IMDG Code
  2. Classify dangerous goods and identify proper shipping name (Hazard Classification based on UN Criteria)
  3. Packing & Tank Provisions (Pack, Mark, Label or Placard)
  4. Consignment Procedures (Prepare documents for dangerous goods)
  5. DG Declaration and Container Packing Certificate
  6. Transport Operations, Stowage, Segregation, and Container Packing
  7. Offer & Accept dangerous goods for transport
  8. Use of the IMDG Code and 49 CFR Requirements for Import/Export
  9. Emergency Response Procedures
